Food Safety Week 2008

The 9 to 13 June 2008 is National Food Safety Week. The UK-wide campaign aims to raise awareness of good food hygiene practice, encouraging local authorities, schools and communities throughout the country to focus on the best ways to avoid food poisoning.

The Food and Safety Unit are 'on tour' during the week with information on food hygiene, food poisoning and healthy eating, freebies, and a competition to win a barbeque pack.

Come along and see us between 10am and 3pm at the following venues:

  • 11 June  - Tesco Askham Bar, Tadcaster Road, York
  • 12 June -  McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Store, Fulford, York
  • 13 June  - Sainsburys, Monks Cross, York

There is also a small unmanned information display in York Central Library, Museum Street, York for the duration of the week.

Hope to see you there!

Calling all Young Artists

This week we also launch our children's colouring and poster competitions. The colouring competition is open to children aged 3 to 5. You can download a copy of the image to colour from this page.  Please ensure that your child's contact details are completed on the reverse of their entry.

The poster competition will be judged in two age categories and is open to children aged 6 to 8 and 9 to 11. The theme for the poster that we would like children to create is 'Keep food safe - Don't spread germs'.

There are some great prizes on offer for the winning designs and 2 runners up in each age category - details of the prizes and the rules for the poster competition can be downloaded from this page.

The closing date for both competitions is Friday 22 August 2008.  Good Luck!
