Street collections

If you collect money for a charity or organisation in a public place, on either public or private land, you will need a street collection permit. You may also need:

  • house to house collection licence - if you collect money from premises (such as offices)
  • street trading consent - if you are selling items for charity (ie that proceeds, or part of proceeds, go to charity)

Cost

There is no cost for the street collection permit but you do have to follow the street collection regulations.

The booking diary opens on the 1 August each year for the following year’s collections.

Restrictions to street collections

You are allowed four street collections per year, but only one can take place on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Read the street collection regulations, available to download on the right hnad side of this page, for more information:

Apply for a street collection permit

If you intend to follow a route whilst collecting use the mobile street collection permit application form.

If you are going to stay in one place whilst you collect use the static street collection permit application form.

Both these forms are available to download on the right hand side of this page.  Complete the relevant application form and post it to Licensing & Regulatory Services at least 28 days before the collection is due to take place.

Allow at least another 7 working days for your application to be processed.
