You need permission from us to place temporary traffic lights on any part of the highway. A highway includes not only the road but also footways and verges.

Permission is valid for the duration of the works.

Are there any rules?

If work is within 2 hours ie immediate/emergency then the form must be forwarded  to us straight away.

If the work is minor, then the form should be forwarded 7 working days before work starts.

If the work is major (over 10 working days) then the form is required 28 days before work starts.

Cost

There are no costs involved when applying for temporary traffic lights.

It is the responsibility of the Utility/Company to apply for permission.

The Traffic light form can be downloaded and printed from this page.

The application form should be completed and returned to the streetworks team. Allow at least two working days for permission to be granted.
