Cherry pickers and access platforms

You need permission from the council to place a cherry picker or an access platform on any part of the highway. A highway includes not only the road but also footways and verges.

Permission can be obtained for the duration of the works.

Are there any rules?

  • Rigid pedestrian barriers must be used to prevent pedestrians walking underneath
  • Traffic warning measures will be required
  • A copy of the permit must be displayed on the vehicle or be in possession of the operative at all times

For further information, please read our terms and conditions which you can download from this page.

Cost

There is a charge of £48.00 for a cherry picker licence.  Cheques to be made payable to "City of York Council".

Apply for Permission

You can print the application form from this page - or you can contact us and we will post or fax you an application form for completion.

Return your form to the contact details shown.  Allow at least three working days for permission to be granted.
