Skip permits

  • You need permission from us if you want to place a skip on any part of the highway. A highway includes the road, footways and verges.
  • Permission is valid for 14 days. After 14 days you will need to apply for permission again.

Are there any rules?

  • We will not give permission if the skip will cause an obstruction.
  • Skips must not block pedestrian crossing points including those where the pavement has been lowered to allow wheelchair/pram access.
  • For further information please refer to the terms and conditions.

Cost

  • It costs £30.00 to get a permit to place a skip on the Highway (three working days required).
  • A late application (less than three working days) will cost an additional £15.00 (i.e. £45.00 for 14 days).
  • All skips found on the Highway without a permit will be subect to an additional unlicensed fee of £50.00.
  • All skips on the Highway must comply with the Terms and Conditions.  A defect notice will be issued for any skip which does not meet the required standards and a charge of £15.00 will be made.
  • Skip companies are invoiced at the beginning of each month for any permits or other charges accrued the previous month.  You are not required to produce payment on application.

    Applying for permission

  • It is the skip hire company that must apply to us for a licence before they put your skip on the highway. Three working days notice is required.
  • Any skip found on the highway without permission will be subject to an additional £50 charge and you will be required to either apply for a licence or remove the skip. If a permit is granted the total charge will be £80.00.
  • Skip hire application forms

    • If you are a skip hire company you will need to be registered with us before you can apply to place a skip on the highway.
    • You can download a registration form and an application form - these should be completed and returned to the contact address shown.
    • You should apply for your licence at least three working days before it is required. If an application is received within three working days of the required placement date, an additional charge of £15 will be applied.
