Reviewing an existing licence

All premises in York that sell alcohol, provide regulated entertainment or late night refreshment are required to be licensed by the council under the Licensing Act 2003. Many of these premises have strict conditions attached to their licences, including stipulated operating hours.

Sometimes activities at licensed premises can lead to problems for local residents or neighbouring businesses. For this reason under the Licensing Act licences can be subject to a review.

The review process may however not be the most effective way to deal with all issues and informal intervention or the application of other legislative controls maybe more appropriate.

You can download guidance notes for resolving any issues on the right hand side of this page.

Apply for a formal review of an existing licence

If you want to apply for a formal review of an existing licence download and complete the Application for a review of a premises licence or club premises certificate under the Licensing Act 2003 form (available on the right hand side of this page)

Completed forms should be returned to the Head of Licensing and Regulation.
