The Vehicle (Crime) Act 2001 and Motor Salvage Operations Regulations 2002 regulate the business of motor salvage operators. If you are a motor salvage operator you must register with us.
A motor salvage operators business consists: -
(a) wholly or partly in the recovery for re-use or sale of salvageable parts from motor vehicles and the subsequent sale or other disposal for scrap of the remainder of the vehicles concerned;
(b) wholly or mainly in the purchase of written-off vehicles and their subsequent repair and re-sale;
(c) wholly or mainly in the sale or purchase of motor vehicles which are to be the subject (whether immediately or on a subsequent re-sale) of any of the activities mentioned in paragraphs (a) and (c);
(d) wholly or mainly in activities falling within paragraphs (b) and (c).
Apply to register as a motor salvage operator
Registration lasts for three years and must be renewed on or before the expiry date.
You must, as a requirement of registration, keep records set out in the regulations for a period of six years.
You must notify us within a period of 28 days of any changes affecting your entry in the register, or in a material particular affecting the accuracy of such entry, or of ceasing to carry on business as a motor salvage operator.
Your premises and records of motor salvage are liable to inspection.
The fee for grant and renewal of registration is £60.00, make cheques payable to 'City of York Council’.
