Petroleum licence

You need a licence to store petroleum spirit.

If you want to store petroleum with a view to dispensing it into the fuel tank of an internal combustion engine (eg into a vehicle in a petrol station) then you need a licence. You will need to follow safety rules about how to store petroleum, please contact trading standards for further advice - details to the right of this page.

Fees

Petroleum Storage Licence (Statutory Charges)

  • Stores not exceeding 2,500 litres £40.00
  • Stores not exceeding 50,000 litres £55.00
  • Stores exceeding 50,000 litres £115.00
  • Transfer fee £8.00

Cheques should be made payable to 'City of York Council'.
