The movement of animals from livestock markets is licensed by us. We monitor the welfare of the animals moved and in the event of a disease outbreak trace the animals to prevent the spread of disease.

In the event of an outbreak of an infectious animal health disease work is co-ordinated by DEFRA.

Horses

We also enforce regulations governing horse sales at markets. We are an authorised body for the identification of horses for the issue of horse passports.
