You can dispose of your trade waste at Hazel Court Household Waste Recycling Centre on weekdays (Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm).

Trade waste is not be accepted at weekends.

Trade waste and waste transported in sign-written commercial vehicles is not accepted at Towthorpe/Strensall and Beckfield sites AT ANY TIME.

Waste carriers licence

If you are a trader carrying waste you may need a waste carriers licence. You will not be allowed to use the disposal facilities at Hazel Court Household Waste Recycling Centre without presenting this licence, or reason for exemption.

Waste declaration forms

If you declare the waste you are carrying as being from your household and not from a business activity, you may be asked to fill in and sign a waste declaration form before you are allowed onto site.  These forms will be inspected on a regular basis and any irregulations will be investigated.

Trade waste charges

Traders are charged by the weight of material they bring into the site. All traders must stop on the weighbridge and sign before they enter the site.

On each visit to the site all traders MUST step on the weighbridge so that their vehicle and loads can be weighed.  All traders must sign a weighbridge ticket to indicate acceptance of the charges before they enter the site.

At regular intervals, we will need to check the unloaden weight of your vehicle so that the correct charges can be applied.  A site attendant will advise you on the procedure to be followed.  Failure to do this will result in you being charged a minimum of £80.00 (exc. VAT) which is the equivilent charge for 1,000 kgs of non-recycable waste.

There is a differential charging system in place to encourage recycling and composting.

Non recyclable waste

Please note that there is a minimum charge of £40.00 (excluding VAT) for waste weighing 500 kgs or below. 

Waste to be recycled

To qualify for a recyclable load charge, 85% or more of your load needs to be recycable.  An initial assessment will be made at the weighbridge but further checks will be carried out at the top level of site.  If it becomes apparant the 85% of the load is not recycable the charge will be adjusted to the higher non-recycable rate.

Please note that there is a minimum charge of £20.00 (excluding VAT) waste weighing 500 kgs or below. 

New users

Traders that have not used the site before will need to pre-register before they will be able to use the disposal facilities at the site. For a registration form contact the recycling team.

Paying

You can pay by cheque on your visit to the site, by monthly invoice, you can pay your trade waste invoices online using City of York Council online payments.
