Weights and measures

Trading Standards are responsible for providing advice and enforcing the laws on the weighing and measuring of goods.  This is done by checking the accuracy of weighing/measuring equipment such as shop scales, petrol pumps and weighbridges and checking that goods are of the correct weight.  Trading standards officers investigate complaints about short measure.

Some weighing and measuring equipment must be tested by Trading Standards (or other approved person) before it can be used by a trader to weigh or measure goods.  For more information contact Trading Standards.
