If everyone who lives in a property is a full time student the property is exempt from council tax. You must apply for this exemption, it is not automatic. If one of these full time students stops being a student then the property will no longer be exempt and council tax must be paid.
Properties occupied by a mix of students and non-students may be eligible for a discount. Students are 'not counted' when calculating how many people live in a property. As the charge assumes two people live in a property, if there were two people resident, but one was a full time student, then you can apply for a discount for the student resident.
You can apply online if you are a student at:

You do not need to send us proof of your student status as your college will provide this information directly to us.
If you are a student anywhere other than the three colleges above, you must complete and sign a student council tax exemption and discount application form. You must also send us a copy of your Student Certificate(s). You can download this application form in the 'documents to download' section on this webpage.
