Single occupancy discount

The full council tax for a property assumes two adults are resident. If you live alone you may qualify for a 25% discount.

To apply for a 25% single occupancy discount download and complete the single occupancy discount application form available to download on the right hand side of this page or apply for the single occupancy discount online.

If you cease to be eligible for the single occupancy discount you can cancel your single occupancy discount online.

Some people do not count and are 'disregarded'. This includes monks, nuns, prisoners, full-time students, resident hospital patients, many carers, people who are severely mentally impaired & residents under 18 years of age.

If you live with other people who are all 'disregarded' then you won't qualify for the single occupancy discount but you may still qualify for a 25% discount, contact us for details.

If all the people who live in your home are 'disregarded' then you may qualify for a 50% discount

For further details on discounts, exemptions, second homes and disabled relief contact the Local Taxation Section.
